Either way, my girlfriend and I lived here during our Senior year at UVM, and Rich made sure our experience here was comfortable and accommodating. From central air, to a nice kitchen, to Burlington Telecom high speed internet, all on top of an amazing view and close proximity to campus buses, it's truly the perfect place to live for a UVM student. While the initial price is steep, remember that utilities (minus electricity and a cheap internet fee) are included, which cannot be said for most places downtown that are poorly insulated and therefore require an outlandish heating cost. While desks are provided at The Lofts, I'd recommend a trip to Ikea to help maximize comfort and space (as shown by my workstation, pictured below). The fitness center is great when the UVM gym is closed, and playing pool, foosball and ping pong late at night after a trip to Montreal are some great memories i'll keep with me. Thanks to the Lofts for making my Senior year the best it could possibly be.
I lived at the lofts for 2 glorious years between 2014-2016. The primary reason the lofts were a welcoming sanctuary from hectic school life was the property manager Richard McClain. McClain was always helpful, enthusiastic, and understanding of student life. What's more is that he took the time to know his residents personally and always had his door open. Having graduated and moved on into the real world of apartment hunting, I can honestly say McClain is the gold standard by which all other landlords fall short. I have heard recently he is moving on, and I just wanted to pass on a final farewell and good luck in your next job! The lofts will not be the same without you.
The Redstone Lofts UVM was the perfect solution for my housing needs. It is basically right on campus, but it has the independent feel of being off campus. It was great not having to buy furniture, as it is fully furnished with reasonably nice furniture and appliances. The price seems a tad bit excessive, but it is incredibly difficult to find a price that could compare with the amenities available to those who live in the Lofts. A few extra visitor spaces in the parking lot would be really nice as well.
Words cannot describe how much I miss this apartment. All rules are laid out extremely clearly by management--everything from parking stickers, to submitting fix-its, to any other complaints. If you read the rules and follow them, there will be absolutely no issues. Perhaps those leaving poor reviews either can't read, or choose not to.
I very much enjoyed my time at the Lofts. I lived in the South building for two years in a two bedroom apartment with my roommate. The convenience of the Lofts is second to none. I really enjoyed the amenities, including the fitness center and the Lantern. The Lofts are a great alternative to downtown student housing, which is notoriously known for being in disrepair. I also appreciated how quickly any issues within the apartment were dealt with (e.g., squeaking doors, loud washer/dryer, etc.). Overall, the Lofts are a great place to live for upperclassmen who want to live close to campus, have access to amenities, and prefer a quieter but still social living environment.
Pros: Newer building, right on campus, AC/washer in units, solid appliances, clean and well managed. Noise has never been an issue from neighbors.
Cons: Expensive, Wifi drops once or twice a week, even number rooms face the field which gets loud during games and massive floodlights every night till 11:00. Also, if you get a USPS package that doesn't fit in the mail locker you need to go downtown and pick it up, which can be frustrating.
